• Connie Mack is looking like the GOP nominee for Senate

A day after Quinnipiac produced a poll of those same Florida citizens (whom Democratic strategist Steve Schale insists do not fully represent the voters in November) have more good news for Republicans: Rick Scott is at his highest level of popularity in at least a year. The governor has a 41 percent approval ranking, though more people — 46 percent — still disapprove of his performance.

In a one-on-one matchup between likely GOP senate candidate Connie Mack and Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson, Quinnipiac has that race in a statistical tie, with Mack at 42 percent, Nelson at 41 percent.

The poll also shows that for all intents and purposes, the GOP senate race seems over, with Mack holding a dominant 40-7 percent lead over George LeMieux (Mike McCalister actually polls higher than LeMieux at 8 percent).
