There is a tired cliche in Major League Baseball that I will paraphrase as "momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher" — the point being that things can change on a dime when a team has a winning streak going.

The same might be said about the GOP presidential field. No, not for the candidate leading the pack — according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Monday morning, the leader in Florida is still Mitt Romney — but for the man who finishes second in the Sunshine State's presidential primary scheduled for January 31.

The new poll shows Romney with 36 percent, Newt Gingrich second with 24 percent, and Rick Santorum making some noise, coming in third with 16 percent of the vote.
