What happened yesterday, other than the beginning of the end?
Hey, remember that guy who resigned as secretary for Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection on Friday? His new job is working for the law firm the DEP hired to represent Florida’s interests regarding BP’s billion-dollar Deepwater Horizon payout. My dog is less obvious trailing me around the house as I eat mixed nuts. (He’s also reportedly the third consecutive DEP secretary to be hired by the firm straight out of the department, BTW.)
Polk County teachers protested en masse after the school district denied their demand for a small raise. Teachers in the county currently make less than the state average. What happens when one of the most important jobs in all of humanity becomes so undervalued that no one can make a living doing it anymore? “Who cares? I don’t have kids and I don’t live in Polk County,” said someone who apparently plans on gliding through the next 50 years or so without any incidental human interaction whatsoever.
“Couple Living Next to Busy Restaurant Unhappy About Living Next to Busy Restaurant.” Sigh.
Tampa Bay home prices saw the state’s biggest year-over-year rise in December. “Well, we really wanted a single-family home within cycling distance of restaurants and galleries, but we couldn’t afford one, so we decided to move into this condo downtown and complain about the noise.” That’s what that means, basically.
And finally, a woman arrested during a brawl in St. Pete on Monday night was charged with aggravated assault after hitting a police officer in the shoulder with a used tampon. And you can’t even pick up a box of ’em for your lady on your way home…
