Welcome to the day after the day that was.

MacDill Air Force Base's main gate was closed yesterday "out of an abundance of caution" by what officials called a "routine traffic stop" on South Dale Mabry. At the same time, the FBI asked the FAA for a flight restriction for MacDill's airspace, which allows for protocols up to and including shooting down aircraft violating the restriction that are deemed a threat to security. "Routine traffic stop," indeed.

Florida Governor and potential candidate for national office Rick Scott signed a bill into law yesterday mandating that all the state's nursing homes and assisted living facilities have back-up power sources. Yup, another law we didn't know we needed until somebody showed us, once again, that there are people out there who literally think it hurts the bottom line too much to try and keep everybody alive.

Speaking of people taking advantage of the elderly for profit, Pasco authorities are warning residents about a scam misrepresenting a roofing company as being approved by the county's Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. If only there were an appropriate turn of phrase for how angry this makes me…

And finally, a man is suing Disney's Magic Kingdom after a rat allegedly jumped onto his wife's wheelchair before biting him while the couple was exiting a ride through one of the park's merchandise stores. Hopefully those increased attendance fees and new overnight parking costs will cover an exterminator.
