Merle Haggard wrote, "someday we'll look back and say it was fun." Liam Gallagher sang, "Don't look back in anger."

Neither of these perspectives applies to Thursday.

USF is investigating the Cornerstone Christian Church for possible violations of university policy (as well as state or federal law) because of its relation to Arizona's Faith Christian Church, which was forced to sever ties with University of Arizona's Religious Council over allegations of "cultlike behavior" such as financial malfeasance and mistreatment of infants, among other claims. And here I thought leveraging funds out of the congregation to enrich the church and exercising too much rigid control over the young only happened in EVERY RELIGION EVER.

Two current and one former Florida Department of Corrections officers were arrested for plotting to kill a black inmate. Why? Because of a fight between the inmate and one of them, and oh, also, the three are KKK members. Just couldn't let Indiana outdo you in the time-travel-back-to-a-more-bigoted-time department, could you, Florida?

This overly pun-laden Tribune piece relates the tale of a Valrico man who, in course of trying to save a $30 driver's license renewal fee, was caught not only lying to a law enforcement officer but also in possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Normally I'd wrap up with a cheesy stoner joke here, but I'm afraid the Trib staff used 'em all in the story. (Mmmmmm… cheesy.)

And finally, sort-of-but-not-really Digital Future currency Bitcoin has ended its sponsorship of the once-again nameless college football bowl game played annually at Tropicana Field annually since '08 after just one year, despite having signed a three-year deal. So we were unsure about this whole thing to begin with, then got caught up in the buzz that initially brought value to the project, but that value eventually and abruptly dissipated, leaving those who invested in the project to wonder what happened to that promised bright future? Yup, that's Bitcoin!
