A new campaign launched Tuesday by St. Pete City Councilwoman Gina Driscoll and a bunch of local businesses aims to get both the beverage purveyors and patrons in town to stop using plastic straws, which are discarded after one use, too small to be recycled and a serious threat to the health of the gulf. "Who cares, they're just little straws," said a guy who eats a grouper sandwich in St. Pete Beach every day and wonders why his insides sometimes burn and make crinkly clicking noises.

The Pinellas County School Board voted to spend nearly a million bucks on moving the start times of most county schools 10 and 15 minutes later in the morning. That'll teach 'em… ?

A new report from finance site WalletHub says Florida is the 10th worst state in the country for working millennials, citing high unemployment, a high number of uninsured and a low number of millennial residents actually in the workforce, among other statistics. I wonder if it has anything to do with Florida having by far the highest number of residents over 65, and the state's tendency to assume anyone under 35 just wants to go to work at Salty Bob's Surfside Swig Shack wearing shorty-shorts and asking people not to request a straw.
