You made it to Friday! Let’s celebrate by obsessing over Thursday’s news.
Some parents are outraged that a sex education course being taught in Pinellas County schools is run by a pro-life Christian group. It’s cute that you thought the separation of church and state was actually a thing. Also, abstinence education or no, your children are doing sex stuff to one another.
It’s been zero days since a 13-year-old middle schooler was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to campus (Hillsborough), and one day since a high school student was arrested for threatening to go on an on-campus shooting spree (Hernando). I’m not a parent, but I would definitely put this above church-led abstinence education in the “shit going on at schools that worries me” category.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will be taking on the Boston Bruins in round 2 of the NHL playoffs. The Bruins are thought to have a slight advantage due to the fact that they’re from somewhere that actually has ice for a considerable amount of the calendar year, but that just means they don’t understand the pure, galvanizing joy of being in a cold room for once.
The Florida Department of Transportation says a particularly dangerous intersection along U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor is so particularly dangerous because of its turn lanes, so it put up a dumb, confusing sign that most dumb, incompetent drivers will probably interpret as having something to do with allergies. It’s the people, stupid.
And finally, a Plant City Winn Dixie reimbursed a customer for the $4,000 he spent at the store buying gift cards when he fell victim to phone scammers claiming to be the IRS. That’s super awesome, and a timely reminder to all of us to sit down with our parents or grandparents sometime soon and make sure they know that the IRS doesn’t accept Google Play credits as payment. Have a good weekend, everybody.
