With the polls showing the governor’s race neck and neck, but all the other down-ballot races looking bleak for the Democratic candidates, the entire roster of statewide Democrats running on Tuesday’s Election Day ballot made a “hometown” stop for Thonotosassa resident Alex Sink early Monday evening at the Ritz Theatre in Ybor City.
Joining Alex Sink and running mate Rod Smith on stage was one of the grand old Democrats, former Senator and Governor Bob Graham, along with current Senator U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (who, showing good spirit but wack moves, danced to “Sweet Caroline” by the opening band). The rest of the cabinet candidates, Dan Gelber, Scott Maddox and Lorrane Ausley, as well as Sink’s husband, Bill McBride, and state Senator Arthenia Joyner all shared the stage.
Sink spoke for only five minutes. “If you want the news coming out of Tallahassee to be about honesty and integrity, not arrests and indictments, will you come with us?” she asked.
The message to the hundreds of mostly dedicated Democrats from all those on stage was to go vote, and/or tell five to 10 other friends to vote tomorrow, though none of the other candidates behind Sink got an opportunity to speak.
