La Sociedad (The Society) of Ybor City House of Artists is a new group of artists and musicians working together to promote mutual aid to the creative talents who live, work and play in the former cigar capital of the world. (In case you were wondering, the name "La Sociedad" is supposed to hint at the mutual aid societies that flourished in Ybor during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.)

This Friday night, La Sociedad presents Information For Smokers, a cross-disciplinary art show that takes place in the 116-year-old Oliva Cigar Factory, one of only two wood-framed cigar factories left in Florida. The works of nine visual artists — Eric Zimmerman, Oscar Beauchamp, Elizabeth Kazlowski and Alyssa Davie included — are displayed to the beat of live music by three local bands: Falterboy, The Interventionists and Red Room Cinema.

Information for Smokers, Sat., June 10, 8 p.m.-midnight, Oliva Cigar Factory, 2008 N. 18th St., Ybor City, free admission (donations accepted), www.myspace.com/lasociedad.
