A death threat has never sounded so delightful. Thanks to MySpace and the ace Mp3 blog Said the Gramophone, I'm becoming a fan of French folk/pop/acoustic outfits like the Paris-based male/female duo SoKo. The singer, Soko Girl, is a beautiful brunette who warns in heavily accented English "I'll Kill Her." The lyric — half-spoken, half-sung — is straightforward and sold with equal parts pluck and vulnerability. The crestfallen ingénue details why she would make the man happy if only he'd choose her over that damn other girl. "She's a bitch, you know, all she's got is blondeness. … I'll kill her, she stole my future when she took you away." Adorable.
