It's been a busy 24 hours in the Tampa Bay area.

First and foremost of course is the capture of a suspect in the killing of St. Pete Police Officer David S. Crawford by St. Petersburg Police last night. You can read about that here, and also our take on if we can start getting serious about controlling guns in this state?

In what might be the final official mayoral forum of the 2011 campaign season, the 5 candidates running to lead Tampa squared off in a forum in the Forest Hills section of North Tampa last night, and of course we were there to provide you the highlights.

CL spoke yesterday with Tampa City Council candidate in District 3 Michael Ciftci yesterday, who is angry at a report published in Sunday's St. Petersburg Times about his work with an alternative energy group here in Tampa that led to him getting a $100,000 state grant to do work in Haiti.  You can read our analysis of that story after talking to the principals here.

And Hillsborough County and Tampa may be getting serious about consolidating services, what with the massive budget deficits both local governments face, some would say it's about time.
