St. Petersburg city council member Karl Nurse held a press conference this morning at city hall to support funding that would aid in making homes more energy efficient, known as PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) funding.

According to the Department of Energy, “PACE financing programs allow state and local governments, where permitted by state law, to extend the use of land-secured financing districts to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements on private property.”

Some states have already passed legislation that allows for PACE funding and if Florida were to pass similar legislation, Nurse says that 80 percent of homes in St. Petersburg would be candidates for energy efficiency projects.
