You used to be able to see Macon-based Moonshine Still every few months — Southeastern bands are reliable like that — but the last time they dropped in was December, and after drummer and founding member Will Robinson said goodbye to life on the road with Moonshine, the touring slowed to a crawl while the rest of the band looked for another drummer. It didn't take long. Jon Joiner of the funk-infused Thelonius and Southern rockin' Lionz claimed beat-making duties and began only a few weeks after Robinson played his last show in early May. As the "new guy" in the band, Joiner, who boasts a jazz-influenced drumming background and counts Stuart Copeland among his favorite artists, will probably be enthusiastically showing off his chops at the Friday night Skipper's Smokehouse show, adding an interesting new dimension to Moonshine's genre-crossing music, which they've playfully dubbed "Frankenrock." The FREED and Atlanta songstress Rebecca Jean Smith open this night of jams. Fri., Sept. 8, 8 p.m., 910 Skipper Road, Tampa, $10, 813-971-0666, www.skipperssmokehouse.com.
