I don’t usually read tbt* because it’s a condensed, dumbed-down version of the St. Pete Times, and who needs to read the same stories twice?
But I took a look at today’s edition, wondering if the headline “See Ya, Sami” meant that they were running some snarked-up commentary on the end of the Al-Arian saga.
They weren’t; the story was simply an edit of Meg Laughlin’s even-handed assessment from the Times.
But there was something of note inside. In “World in a Snap,” their spread of color photos from the wires, they ran a shot of the gay and lesbian families who took part in this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll. Cute kids, rainbow leis.
And they ran it with this headline: “That bunny looks a little bit odd.”
No bunny in the photo, odd or otherwise. Oh, I get it. It’s a wink-wink nudge-nudge kind of headline — even the Easter bunny’s going queer.
Like somehow the idea of same-sex parents having a good time with their kids is joke-worthy.
And “odd.”
Ha.
