This week, mutual aid volunteers from Tampa Bay will head toward the New Orleans area to bring supplies after the devastation of Hurricane Ida—and they’re asking for your help.
On Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., donations will be collected at Waters Avenue Church (609 W. Waters Ave. Tampa).
The donations will be handled by Mutual Aid Disaster Relief (MADR) and Tampa Food Not Bombs volunteers as they join disaster relief teams who are headed into the hardest hit areas of Louisiana, which are in the New Orleans area.
MADR—a group that organizes around the world to help rebuild communities during disaster scenarios—shared a flyer with the most urgent supplies needed.

Residents who evacuated New Orleans are being advised not to return as Ida’s destructive winds and rain wreaked havoc on the power system and infrastructure of the Crescent City, along with nearby towns and cities. Many homes and buildings have been reduced to rubble, and rescue teams are currently underway. One death has been confirmed so far, with more deaths expected as rescue efforts continue.
Ida is now a tropical depression as it curves toward the northeast, causing further flooding and destruction along the way.
