According to the public advocacy group Public Citizen, at least 56 cities and towns across the country have approved resolutions calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court 2010 Citizens United decision.

You can add the city hosting the 2012 Republican National Convention to the list, after the Tampa City Council voted 5-0 approving a similar resolution on Thursday afternoon.

In that controversial decision, the high court ruled that corporations have a First Amendment right to spend as much money as they want to influence elections. That's helped spur the advent of the so-called super PACS this year that every presidential candidate has utilized to his benefit, including President Obama.

The measure was brought forward today by Councilwoman Mary Mulhern, the most progressive member on the board.
