President Obama's Clean Power Plan was years in the making.

It aims to drastically produce emissions from power plants across the country by 2030.

It's no wonder environmentalists are rejoicing, but, so, too, are some political leaders. On Tuesday at 10 a.m. on the steps of Tampa City Hall, city leaders as well as representatives from environmental groups will tout the new policy in a press conference where they'll espouse the many virtues of the new plan.

They say it's a win not only for the environment, but for public health in general, given the potential respiratory effects of excess carbon emissions.

Among those slated to speak are Tampa City Council Chair Frank Reddick, former lawmaker and consumer advocate Sean Shaw, Sierra Club Florida staff director Frank Jackalone and Rev. Russel Meyer, Executive Director of the Florida Council of Churches.

According to a media release, the group also plans on responding to Attorney General Pam Bondi's attempt to block the Clean Power Plan, which she joined 14 other states in doing, earlier this month.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. at 306 East Jackson St.
