Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn has, as promised, endorsed a mayoral candidate: Jane Castor.

“Jane Castor won a convincing victory last night. She is the best candidate to finish the work of the last 8 years and take Tampa to the next level,” stated Mayor Bob Buckhorn in a press release. “She is tested, she is prepared and she is ready to be our Mayor. There’s not a neighborhood she doesn’t know and challenge she isn’t ready to face. I am proud to endorse Jane Castor as your next Mayor.”

This endorsement came the day after the municipal election, where Castor won 48 percent of the vote, sending her into the runoff election. Her opponent is retired banker and philanthropist David Straz, who won 15.5 percent of the vote.

"Mayor Buckhorn leaves a tremendous legacy, and I am so honored to earn his confidence and endorsement. Tampa is on a trajectory of success, in large part thanks to his leadership," Castor said in a press release. "Our city needs a proven leader who can keep our momentum going and make sure every family and every neighborhood thrives. I would be honored to take the baton and work every day to make Tampa as great as it can be."
