This Monday, September 27, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and the city council will honor environmental activist Alan Wright by renaming Spring Park after him at a ceremony taking place at 2 p.m.
Wright, known as "Mr. River" for his advocacy for the Hillsborough River died back in December of 2007 after a long battle of cancer. He was 54.
A press release issued today by Linda Carlo from the city of Tampa goes as follows:
Wright was a principal planner with the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission and county liaison to the Hillsborough River Interlocal Planning Board and Technical Advisory Council for 21 years. He worked tirelessly to improve not only the ecological conditions and biological viability of this important fresh water resource, but also in a synergistic fashion with an aim to improve the quality of life and livability of the river community.
Spring Park is located at 1402 East Park Circle Drive. Again that ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday.
