As we reported last week, it was hard to make an immediate judgment on the political ramifications of Barack Obama's decision last Wednesday to come out in support of same-sex marriage.
There hasn't been any significant polling done since his interview with ABC's Robin Roberts — until now.
A New York Times/CBS News Poll out this morning shows the overwhelming number of those surveyed believe the president's announcement was motivated by politics and not policy, probably not a statistic that Team Obama in Chicago will be overjoyed to see.
Sixty-seven percent of those surveyed say they thought that Obama had made it “mostly for political reasons,” while 24 percent said it was “mostly because he thinks it is right.”
