The controversial documentary The Cove took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary Sunday night, so why was their speech cut short?
The film's producer Fisher Stevens took the stage to claim their award along with director Louie Psihoyos, fellow producer Paula DuPré Pesman, and one of the film's stars (and former Flipper actor), Rick O'Barry. After Fisher Stevens gave his speech of thanks, he hands over the mic to Louie Psihoyos while Rick O'Barry unfolds and holds up a sign that reads "Text Dolphin to 44144" behind them. Louie barely gets two words out before the music plays over him, the camera cutting to the audience and going straight to a commercial.
