Clearwater's own City Players shows us a few of its favorite things with this weekend's opening of The Sound Of Music at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Formed in 1972 with support from the City of Clearwater, the City Players produce one full-scale show a year and this time around, B.J. Pucci directs a cast of around 60 local talents in the cherished Rodgers & Hammerstein musical loosely based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. The production — which places special emphasis on the family's flight from Austria due to German takeover — features an audience sing-along to "Edelweiss" with Captain von Trapp, which is accompanied by the Tampa Bay Symphony's 17-piece orchestra; Donna Grabill and Tracey Hughes star. July 21-23, 8 p.m. Fri-Sat., 2 p.m. Sun., $22, 1111 N. McMullen Booth Rd., Clearwater, 727-791-7400, www.rutheckerdhall.com.
