It's time to pull that hemp tuxedo out of the back of the closet and send it out for pressing (do you think the cleaners stand around and huff the steam?): High Times Magazine has scheduled the sixth installment of its annual Stony Awards for Oct. 24 at New York City nightclub/venue B.B. King's.
The Stonys celebrate pot's presence in film and television, giving out such awards as Best Stoner Movie, Best Pot Scene in a Movie and Stoner of the Year alongside more general (but still obviously stoner-lifestyle-oriented) accolades like Best Actor in a Movie and Best Song in a Movie or TV Series. Obvious contenders include the critically praised Showtime series Weeds, Brian Jones biopic Stoned and smoke-saturated cult hit Grandma's Boy, but the slate also includes such buzz-friendly programming as Family Guy, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and Saturday Night Live, along with films like Nacho Libre, A Scanner Darkly and, interestingly, the harrowing white-collar-crackhead tale Half Nelson.
