THE PROSPECT
(myspace.com/theprospectfl)
A nattily dressed all-male quartet based in Sarasota, The Prospect recently dropped its debut EP, which the guys cut on Long Island in mid-2007. Titled America, the disc is just four tracks and 12 minutes long, but that brief window gives you a good idea of what The Prospect is capable of. "You've Got Red on You" and "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades" are standard indie-punk fare, most notable for the array of inventive fills drummer Joe Pezzino uses to flesh out the sound. Good, sure, but it's "Curator" — a tense ballad that revolves around percussive piano taps and moaning strings — that best displays the band's considerable range. 3 stars
