One of the many local singer/songwriters forced to split her time between cover gigs and performing originals, Gale Trippsmith has the polished voice of a trained professional. That's not to say it's bereft of emotion, but it's far poppier than what one typically finds on the coffeehouse circuit. Playing proven hits on a regular basis probably benefited Trippsmith's ear for melody; the songs she wrote for Chasing the Rabbit are often as grabby as anything on Adult Contemporary radio but with a bluesier edge, thanks to fine acoustic and electric guitar fills by Kirk Adams. 3 stars
