If you know who injured this alligator, you should call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
In a tweet, law enforcement asked for tips after a large alligator was found—in Oak Hill Loop in Fort Myers on Wednesday, April 28—injured with “two arrows impaled into its side and a rope wrapped around the gator’s snout and webbed feet.”
Miraculously, the tenacious gator survived, and was safely removed from the pond by deputies and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, according to the tweet.
If you have any tips, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
According to the FWC, it’s currently alligator mating season—and will be until late July or early August—which means larger gators (over six-feet in length) are on the move and more visible, especially between dusk and dawn. Florida currently has an alligator population of 1.3 million.
