The Tampa Bay area's two top dailies, the Tampa Tribune and the Tampa Bay Times, lost some heavy-hitters this week.

It was announced last week that the Trib lost business reporter Rich Mullins to PR firm Tucker Hall.

Monday, multiple news outlets reported that energy reporter Ivan Penn is leaving the Times for to cover energy for the Los Angeles Times.

Earlier today, Times entertainment writer Sean Daly announced he's leaving the paper for television, which he said would put him in 96 million homes, but he did not announce what his venue will be.

The departures of the three reporters, all of whom have been at their respective papers for roughly a decade, are the latest in an ongoing exodus of reporters from this area's major dailies.

Both papers have faced financial troubles in recent years, and both are looking to sell the buildings that house most of their day-to-day functions.

The Tampa Bay Times recently announced that its headquarters in downtown St. Pete, a prime location, is for sale.

The building that houses the Trib's newsroom, executive offices, printing press and other departments is also for sale. Although there'd likely be an option for the paper to rent the building from its new owners, the building abuts the Hillsborough River and is thus also prime real estate.

So, yes, not the best time to go into daily print news, kids.
