Tampa Bay residents held a vigil Wednesday afternoon to protest the scheduled execution of Manuel Valle, who was convicted thirty three years ago for the murder of police officer Louis Pena.

But his execution, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., was delayed, as the U.S. Supreme Court intervened
(Update:Valle was declared dead at 7:14 p.m. The Miami Herald reports that the execution happened as scheduled. Valle had last-ditch appeals pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, but it did not rule to delay or block the execution before 4 p.m.).
