According to the National Weather Service, Tampa Bay is looking at classic afternoon showers Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but it doesn't look like the rain is going to knock back this sweltering heat. The heat index, or temperature plus humidity, is expected to top 100 degrees in both Tampa and St. Petersburg.
The National Weather Service has issued a warning for dangerous heat and humidity further north, but Tampa Bay is not included in the advisory.
Still, dehydration is a threat with temperature this high, particularly when high humidity combats the body’s self-cooling system. So, before you hit the pool or set out to get some over-do yard work done, remember to pound some water.
