Dejected after a failed relationship with label Matador Records, which released her last album, 2008’s Here With Me, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Jennifer O'Connor wondered if it might be time to call it quits. So she packed up her guitar and worked odd jobs — bartender, freelance writer, personal assistant.
Though she sporadically wrote songs, “mostly about [her] confusion about life and what [she] was doing and … should do next,” there was no grand plan for returning to the music business. Luckily for fans of O’Connor’s simple, though certainly not simplistic, melodic and insightful songwriting, a certain angst-ridden saga about teen vampires came to her musical rescue.
