Nearly a year and a half ago, CL featured an article about Instant Potable Reuse (IPR) as a possible alternative way for Tampa to address its water needs for the future – which city leaders need to prepare for.

IPR is, at its essence, recycling and treating sewage and other wastewater to drink. It’s used in Orange County and in other parts of the world. But there’s resistance to it being used in other locales, mainly because of the so-called “yuck” factor.

And if you don’t believe that’s a powerful factor, check out this story published by the Associated Press this past Monday night, datelined Portland, Oregon.

The headline says it all: Man urinates in water, city flushes 8 million gallons.
