Some anonymous dude dropped off a handful of copies of White Lilies Island one afternoon a couple weeks back, and what a mysterious package it is. Xerox-quality black-and-white art surrounds a CD-R with "Skiffle" scrawled on it in Magic Marker. No song titles, in fact, no extraneous info at all. Even online is a no-go. All I could track down was a minimalist MySpace page that pretty much says nothing at all. The music is similarly non-communicative: spacey, lo-fi instrumentals with nothing but guitar noodling and occasional bass and drums. Although it doesn't even try to connect on a melodic level, as an avant-mind-fuck, the LP works. Definitely intriguing. (myspace.com/skifflemusic) 3 stars
