Michael Phillips, who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), came to the convention area with his mother and brother, Karen and Brian Clay. Karen said that they are only able to take care of Michael at home because of a Medicare waiver that helps them to pay for his care, and that if Ronmney and Ryan are elected he will likely need to be institutionalized. “Paul Ryan’s budget cuts $800 billion over 10 years directly from Medicaid, and no insurance company would ever insure him,” she said. “People need to understand what is at stake in this election.” Credit: Joeff Davis
