Since Oct. 7, local pro-Palestine groups have regularly held down the corner of Fowler Avenue and 56th Street in Temple Terrace.
This past weekend was no different. On Saturday, hundreds marched down Fowler and gathered at the Boston Market parking lot to show support for the Palestine people, and call for an end to the U.S.’s ongoing financial support of Israel.
Across the street, a considerably smaller, pro-Israel counter protest was present at the Taco Bell parking lot, which consisted of one woman waving an Israel flag and a handful of pro-Trump/MAGA allies.
In the wake of the deadly Oct. 7 Hamas attack that claimed the lives of more than 1,400 Israelis, Israel imposed a total blockade on Gaza, and launched ongoing air strikes in the region. This morning, a third wave of medical aid trucks was allowed to enter Gaza, an area that contains roughly 2.3 million people who are reportedly running dangerously low on food, supplies and fuel.
Last week, President Joe Biden formally requested more than $14 billion in military aid for Israel, as well as $9 billion for humanitarian efforts in Gaza, Israel and Ukraine.
