A historic home built for prominent Tampa developer and politician Arthur Yager Milam is now for sale on Davis Islands.

Completed in 1926, the Mediterranean Revival estate sits at 301 Caspian St., and was designed for Milam by Franklin O. Adams, who has been referred to by Tampa Bay History Center director Rodney Kite-Powell as “one of the city’s best and most prolific architects of the 20th century.”

Responsible for 42 homes and commercial buildings across Davis Islands during its initial development, Adams left a significant footprint in the Tampa Bay region during Florida’s land boom of the early 1920s.

Adams’ work includes the Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, Mirasol Hotel, the Bay Isle Building, the Davis Islands Pool (now the Roy Jenkins Pool), and the nearby Plant High School, which was reportedly the largest in the state when it was finished in 1927.

Milam, who served as both Vice President of D. P. Davis Properties and Speaker of the House in the Florida House of Representatives in 1925, only lived in the Davis Islands home until 1928, when he sold it and left town following the collapse of the Florida land boom.

In 1989, the Milam house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was described by W. Carl Shriver of the Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation, as “graciously symmetrical and well-detailed without being gaudy or ostentatious.”

Today, the 7,854-square-foot home comes with six bedrooms and nine bathrooms as well as a chef’s kitchen, an elevator, a French limestone courtyard with a fountain, a pool and spa, and a two-car garage with an upstairs guest suite.

The Milam mansion is currently asking $4.65 million and the listing agent is Brenda Kennedy of Align Right Realty Carrollwood.
