Two Shepherds Taproom no longer has that dog in ‘em.
Tampa’s first indoor-outdoor dog bar took to social media this afternoon to announce that the concept will soon cease to be a dog bar, and instead “pivot the taproom into a permanent event space.”
“Our goal in the beginning was to create a space where people and pups could come together,” continues the post, “and we are proud to have accomplished that. We are beyond grateful for the community that has supported us throughout these years.”
You still have a few days to crack some cold ones with your dogs. The Drew Park space, located at 4813 N Grady Ave., will host one last dog-friendly shift this Friday, May 29, from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.
Not a lot of details were released regarding the closure, and it’s unclear exactly how this impacts annual memberships and employees. But Two Shepherds says it plans to expand its relationship with board game shop Gambit Games, which recently moved in and will launch a new store within the existing Two Shepherds space.
Creative Loafing Tampa Bay could not reach Two Shepherds co-founders Ross O’Bryan and Patrick Verdugo for comment, but will update this story if they get back to us.
Two Shepherds first opened its doors back in April of 2020, and was the first in Tampa to incorporate both outdoor and an indoor air-conditioned dog-friendly play areas for dogs and beer lovers. Besides dogs and brews, the concept also featured a rotating roster of local food trucks and daily events.
The decision to close the “dog” portion of the business comes about a year after another local indoor-outdoor dog bar, Pups Pub in Tampa, closed after losing a contentious lawsuit with the Florida Health Department, which effectively banned non-service animals from being inside a restaurant.
