Most Florida voters vehemently oppose cutting Social Security benefits to reduce the federal deficit. A poll released Wednesday showed that three-quarters of likely voters — including Democrats, Republicans, Independents and even Tea Partiers — object to reducing spending at the expense of Social Security.
The issue may potentially play a major role in the 2012 U.S. Senate race, especially among swing voters. Nearly seven of ten likely voters would be less likely to vote for a Senate candidate who supports cutting benefits in 2012, and 71 percent of Independent voters and 78 percent of undecided voters oppose the proposed cutbacks.
