This morning in Tallahassee, health care professionals and Pasco County House Republican Mike Fasano held a news conference to support Medicaid expansion, a deal that looks dead after a Senate committee rejected the proposal yesterday.

The news conference was organized by the Florida Remedy campaign, led by the Florida Hospital Association.

Representative Fasano was quite outspoken, saying that Republicans who rejected the federal government's plan for Medicaid expansion yesterday but said they will come up with their own program for insuring a million low-income residents is simply "a cop out. Nothing more than a cop out."

The chairman of the panel, Stuart Republican Joe Negron, came up with his own alternative plan yesterday that would use the Florida Healthy Kids program as a template, though it remains uncertain if the federal government would agree to such a plan.
