The men in Manolo’s family made cigars, and the women were seamstresses, but Manolo started designing clothes after landing in Tampa. The Big Apple eventually called his name, and busy city streets stirred the storyteller inside of Manolo. Fashion, theater, film and dance were his mediums, but Still Waiting, opening on Saturday, will show off the pen and ink drawings he completed after kidney disease forced Manolo — who now lives in Gulfport — to retreat back to Tampa for a transplant. Reflecting the emotional storm that is dialysis, the uncertain wait for an organ donation, and recovery, this show will hang until September 27. Don’t wait until the end to visit.
Opens Sat. Aug. 31. 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Hooch and Hive, 1001 W, Cass St., Tampa. INFO.
