Religious freedoms should apply to members of the Satanic Temple, right?

A wry, new documentary — Hail Satan? — asks that question and follows Temple co-founder Lucien Greaves through battles that expose hypocrisy of letting other religions (read: Christianity) practice openly while the Temple’s Black Mass, which is a parody ceremony that mimics the rituals of a Catholic service, gets shit on in mainstream op-eds.

Director Penny Lane — who’s responsible for Nuts!, which is about a move to cure impotence with goat testicles and other oddball Americana — drives the film, which screens nine times at Tampa Theatre in between Friday and Monday.

Hail Satan, Fri.-Mon. May 17-20. Tampa Theatre. tampatheatre.org.
