In the fall of 2017, I watched 19,000 fans bow down to Zac Brown Band during a 25-song marathon set at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre.
“There are about a dozen times during a Zac Brown show when it feels like another 1 a.m. at another local beach bar,” I wrote. “It’s the smell of saltwater and sweat, the hot aroma of alcohol breath, and it’s the sound of a cover band playing ‘It’s A Great Day To Be Alive’ while the leatheriest old-timers this side of Spring Break sing along without a care.”
And that’s why I’m not surprised to find a Zac Brown tribute act playing this Treasure Island beach bar on Friday. The Foundation gets pretty close most of the time, including when it takes on Brown’s medley of “Free” and Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic,” so go ahead and give yourself permission to stick your toes in the sand for this one.
The Foundation. Fri., Aug. 9, 7 p.m. No cover. Ka’Tiki, Treasure Island. INFO.
