After three years of construction, the City of St. Petersburg’s long-awaited $92 million St. Pete Pier will officially make its debut on Saturday, May 30, officials announced this morning.

“It’s time,” said Mayor Rick Krisemen on a video posted to YouTube. “The future has arrived in the form of a 26-acre pier district. And now it’s yours to enjoy.”

The site will open at 10 a.m., and includes the $1 million wooden playground with a splash pad, a fishing deck, a local market vendor area, several restaurants, a 3,000-square-foot interactive classroom and a $1.5 million sculpture from Tampa Bay artist Jane Echelman called “Bending Arc.”

The Pier is free to the public.
