The debatable difference between what's in good taste and what's in bad is at the core of art appreciation. Now a free public conference at the University of South Florida presents a chance to hobnob with experts to discuss how taste relates to food, fashion, interior design, architecture, fine arts, literature and even plastic surgery.
The conference, titled "The State of Taste," is a bilingual endeavor organized by French-speaking USF professor and author Gaëtan Brulotte. Visual art lovers may want to drop in on Friday's lunchtime presentation at Graphicstudio, "Making Art/Critique of Taste: Graphicstudio as a Collaborative Atelier" with director Margaret Miller. During a Saturday afternoon roundtable, panelists including Bleu Acier owner Erika Schneider and artist Dominique Labauvie will discuss how established values are shifting in today's world.
The conference runs Fri., March 28, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the library of USF's Tampa campus and Sat., Mar. 29, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in the TECO Room of the College of Education building. For more information, contact Brulotte at 813-974-2782.
