Harry Cohen, who has been the Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for Hillsborough County for nearly six years, announced today that he is running for the District 4 seat in next year's Tampa City Council election.
In a press release issued today, Cohen said:
I was born in Tampa and I understand that our City is facing significant fiscal challenges. Having roots in family-owned businesses right here in Tampa, as well as having extensive public and private sector professional experience, I have the right skills to bring to bear on the budgetary challenges facing Tampa.
The most important thing that City Council can do to keep people in their homes and keep our neighborhoods from deteriorating is to foster economic growth. New, private sector jobs can be created by attracting new and innovative industries to Tampa, by making reasonable land use and zoning decisions, and by partnering with our public schools and local universities to develop a top-notch workforce. It is also important to promote our world-class airport, port, and proximity to emerging markets. If parents are worried that their children will not be able to live here because they will not be able to find a job, the most important thing they can do to influence the situation is elect people who will make fostering economic growth their top priority.
Tampa is a wonderful city and one four generations of my family calls home. I would be proud and honored to have a seat at the table as we move Tampa forward toward a brighter tomorrow.
