Rhye w/Fr33dback It has been three years since Woman, but singer Mike Milosh and producer Robin Hannibal are still some of the most mysterious and sought after names in pop. The California-based duo — who perform under the Rhye moniker — released one of 2013’s best albums in Woman, and a recent Webster Hall set found a full band helping them bring cuts from the effort to life. Milosh possesses a soothing silky, gender-bending vocal that pays homage to Sade yet stands on its own just fine thanks to Hannibal’s arrangements, which manage to work in strings, horns and complex bass lines without feeling overbearing. This show has potential to be one of 2016’s best, especially now that Tampa's own Fr33dback has been added as an opener. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg) INFO
Argiflex w/Pas Moi Most artists who lump themselves into any kind of “noisy” electronic category usually know they’re getting tossed into a bin that many find intolerable. Curtis Lehr is a little different. Based out of Cleveland, Mississippi (yes, there’s a Cleveland there), Leher performs under the Argiflex moniker and is touring behind the new-ish Cybersmog LP, which is 50-minutes of accessible-to-laymen trance, IDM and house. DJ Scratch w/DJ Casper/DJ Fader Brentwood is coming to the backyard of Crowbar on Sunday when EPMD’s DJ Scratch hits Ol’ Dirty Sundays once again. His October 2013 was cut short due to airplane issues (long story short, some old guy pooped his pants), but the seven-minute set he did get off was nothing short of hip hop heaven with Scratch honoring Tampa’s own Charlie Chase (please look up Cold Crush Brothers) and cutting the shit out of Eve and Gwen Stefani’s 2001 hit “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.” We’re guessing Scratch is flying in the day before this time, and we can’t wait to get the full treatment. DJ Snake **THIS EVENT IS NO LONGER HAPPENING, BUT PROMOTERS HAVE PROMISED A MAKE UP DATE** Have you ever gone from tipsy to blackout drunk while Lil’ Jon's “Turn Down For What” blared in the background? You can thank DJ Snake for that. The 30-year-old Frenchman loves trap music, and was responsible for that one, but he was also recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (who now call themselves “The Recording Academy”) in 2012 when his work on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way was nominated for the Album of the Year Grammy. Expect this appearance to be full party mode, however, and bring a swimsuit, too. (Beach Bar, Tampa) INFO
