I genuinely like every drink I make here at On the Sauce. And I’m a little extra excited to bring you what is essentially two delicious cocktail favorites in one.
This past Sunday at a poolside barbecue, I tried, what I’m calling, a sangria margarita. I brought some summer beer to drink, but when offered the refreshing beverage, I ended up slamming sangria ‘ritas like I’d just finished a marathon. What started as “sure, I’ll try one” turned into “OK, just one more” — after three.
“What’s in these?” I asked my hostess.
“One part store-bought margarita. One part store-bought sangria,” she said.
I know what you’re thinking: This goes against everything I stand for. While I typically loathe the store-bought stuff, there’s beauty in the simplicity of this. Trust me. We’re also going to freshen up the drink with citrus and give it some zing by incorporating tequila.
My guess is you’ll have more than one if you give the cocktail mashup a taste. In fact, do what we did and make a pitcher to share. Your friends will thank you for it.
Sangria Margarita
Makes 1 pitcher
2 parts store-bought sangria (we used Madria Sangria)
2 parts store-bought margarita mix (we used Masters of Mixes)
1 part tequila
Juice of half an orange
Juice of 1 lime
In a large pitcher, add all ingredients and stir. Serve over ice in your favorite glass (we’re keeping it simple, remember) and garnish with an orange wheel.
