It's Sat., Nov. 21, and there's some music happening all over Tampa Bay. Check out the concert breakdown below.
Circa Survive with Rx Bandits, Citizen Pennsylvania alt rock outfit Circa Survive have delivered a consistently high quality blend of post-hardcore, emo, prog and experimental rock since forming in 2004, with lyrical inspiration ranging from 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Mark Z. Danielewski’s novel House of Leaves, to lead singer Anthony Green’s real-life struggles with mental health. This tour falls behind 2014’s Descensus, a textured and nuanced fifth album that, according to Alternative Press in its glowing review, “feels much looser and organic than anything Circa have done before, almost as if the band are finally comfortable in their own skin.” (The Ritz Ybor, Ybor City)
Joe McMahon and Johnathan Coody with Broken Things A co-bill featuring two frontmen of venerable punk rock acts doing the solo acoustic thing; McMahon howls and plays guitar in Smoke or Fire, which has been relatively inactive since 2010, while Coody does the same for pop-hooky twang-kicking Ninja Gun. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)
Cash Cash with Tritonal Cash Cash is an EDM-pop trio from New Jersey that hit the Billboard Hot 100 charts with electro house hit “Take Me Home” featuring Bebe Rexha. Tritonal is Austin-based DJ/production duo Chad Cisneros and David Reed, who dabbles in house and trance sonic realms. The single collab that brought the two acts together in March, “Untouchable,” spurs their current co-headlining tour. (Amphitheater, Ybor City)
Katharine McPhee American Idol pop singing alum McPhee didn’t win top honors but managed to make the most of her time on that smash reality show with television and film roles, not to mention four studio albums (including a holiday LP). This year’s Hysteria – which brings her on the road – features collabs with Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) and Isabella Summers (Florence and the Machine), among others. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)
Alesana with Iwrestledabearonce, Entheos, Artifex Pereo, Cabaret Runaway Melodic post-hardcore outfit Alesana released the first in a series of conceptual LPs,The Emptiness, in 2010, its twisted love story and lead character inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s Annabel Lee poem. The following year yielded The Inferno-influenced A Place Where the Sun Is Silent. Alesana delivered the final chapter, Confessions, in April, taking their cue from Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet stories and bringing Annabel’s adventures to a dramatic time traveling close.
