Hello, Friday. It's been too long since we last spoke. Now that you're here, though, settle in, because I have plans for you, baby. I'm dialing up my sex tape playlist, shaving my legs, and you and I are going to go all weekend.
Can we dispense with the small talk, Friday? You and I are here for one reason and one reason only, so let's not waste each other's time with chitter chatter.
Friday
I'll be at Lizzie, because I love Rebekah Pulley and I love Jobsite and I love weird shit, so this is pretty much a trifecta of awesome. If I can get to Tampa before traffic sucks (so, you know, 1979), I'll head to the District Tavern for the best burger I've ever eaten in my life.
Saturday
Head to the Tampa Museum of Art, where they're celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with, the museum has pay-as-you-will admission from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. In addition to Complicated Beauty: Contemporary Cuban Art and Manuel Carrillo: Mi Querido México (My Beloved Mexico) exhibits, they have bi-lingual guided tours throughout the day, a flamenco dance performance, mariachis, Mexican folk dance and Cuban pastries from Sono Cafe. TMA's teen council also has a crowd-sourced sculpture, apparently a work-in-progress, and TMA encourages folks to bring a recyclable to add to it.
Just when you think humanity has more asshole now than ever before, you remember — or learn — that people used to steal Jewish tombstones and make them into sidewalks. Matzevot for Everyday Use: Photographs by Łukasz Basik documents these stones and, while yes, it's awful, there's a tragic beauty to the work.
As long as you're in the 'Burg, head to the Studio@620 and get some Day-of-the-Dead cool stuff at Hauntizaar, then go over to the Morean and the Chihuly where they're having one hell of a block party to celebrate the new home of the Chihuly collection. While you're there, look for Jennifer Kosharek's work in Paradise Cities.
Saturday night you'll find the best looking members of the editorial staff at Vault of Souls.
Sunday
Hey, brunch burgers sound good to anyone? Our food editor, the lovely and talented and looks-a-little-like-Zoey-Deschanel Meaghan Habuda swears by the veggie burger at Drama Burger. I don't love them as much as she does, but it's hard to love them as much as she does. Also, I haven't tried their portobello cheddar burger yet.
Thanks, Friday. That was some good lovin'. Your money's on the dresser, sugar.
