Cat Oscars. Really, That Happened (WITH VIDEO!)

Check out Meow Mix's Cat's Meow awards, because linkbait.

This just in from the "This is Not Why Al Gore Invented the Internet... Or Is It?" Department: Cat Oscars. Or something like it. It can't be the Oscars, because everyone knows cats look awful in Dior. And also, Cat Oscars would be crazy, right?

To honor the "unparalleled global impact that cute and cuddly cats have in 2015," the Meow Mix Acatemy created and posted the 2016 Cat's Meow Awards. The awards combines — this is from a Meow Mix press release, verbatim, guys — "two of the world's most powerful artistic forces: 'award shows' and 'Internet cats'."

Sigh. We want to scoff, but a quick Google for "Internet cats" yielded over 100 million results in under a half-second. A Google for "Oscars" yielded only 47 million results and took almost a full second.

Clearly, our priorities as a nation have shifted. Hey, no judgment here. We're huge fans of Henri (Le Chat Noir) and the Dear Kitten advertainment series. At CL, we're all about giving the public what they want.

With that in mind, grab another cup of whatever it is you're drinking, settle in, and relinquish the idea you were going to complete anything else this year. Below, the links to the nominees for Best Cat Cuddle, Best Cat-hlete and Wild Card Cat nominees (NOM-inees, get it?). Meow Mix picked the winners from over 25,000 entrees. We've watched these all, and while we're 90% certain the good folks at Meow Mix are making a joke, we live in a world where the "Original Grumpy Cat" YouTube video has over 19 million views and the 2015 State of the Union has less than 70,000, so we're not saying anything for sure.

The envelope, please...

Best Cat Cuddle' Nominees

Wild Cat Card' Nominees

Best Cat-hlete' Nominees

So, um, "con-cat-u-lations", we guess?
