Seriously — muralists can earn anywhere from $5,000-$20,000 painting murals on public and private buildings in the city. These downtown murals will come courtesy of the city's Community Redevelopment Agency and the Clearwater Public Art and Design Board and the Downtown Development Board. The goal of the project is to showcase the city artistically in a way that sets it apart from other communities, so most likely the successful muralists will submit designs that do that.
Think you can do it? Of course you can. Applications due July 9, and the muralists the city selects will know by July 20.
Here are a few locations slated for mural-fication:
- 512 Cleveland St.
- Creative Contractors, 620 Drew St.
- The Flag Company, 1360 Cleveland St.
- Parking garage, 28 N. Garden Ave.
- Parking garage (facing Station Square Park), 33 N. Garden Ave.
Those are some butt-ugly (and yes, that's the artistic term) blank walls, and we're confident our local artists can do the city proud. So get to it — send a one-page resume or short bio, between three and five photos (or links to photos) of murals you've painted, a design for a mural site (or sites) you want to cover with your mural(s), a budget for the mural(s) and contact info from two past mural clients.
Now, get to it. Those walls aren't going to paint themselves.
